#6 Feb 10 - Version T15 - No more ninja friends


Hello everyone, once again with a new game version! Version T15 is now ready for download.

This week’s update is a bit on the lighter side content wise, since the last one got published on Friday instead of the usual Thursday the week got shortened a bit and I mostly worked on polish and such.

The first thing I really needed to work on was saving npcs. In version T14, our friends would just vanish if you exited the room ,which obviously is nothing we wish for for our dear friends. That was the first thing I did and while playing with that I made it so while you’re in a different room, npcs can travel from room to room, this will be improved further once I get some path finding going on, for now they just teleport to random rooms.

I also spent time on the dialogue system, while Robert Fancywater was added in the last version it did not have any dialogues, so I wrote some up, and polished the dialogue system, as the first version of it was just a quick prototype I slapped on a while back.

The ship map as been quite worked on as well, it’s not entirely done yet, but in previous version you only had the option to add cells and rooms and door. This version is the first where you’re now able to remove rooms and shrink them as well as having other improvements.

So yeah lot of tweaking and improving, sadly I was too focused on this and didn’t see the time fly, I didn’t take time to add any new items/furniture, but some time it’s like that, it’s not the flashiest things, but they have to get done.

I’m also starting to look into making sure that your saves will be compatible with future versions, so you don’t have to start a new station each time.

Changes :

  • Robert Fancywater Dialogues - V1 - Come have a chat!
  • Dialogue system improvement
    • Better workflow and json importation
    • Portaits are now bigger
    • Friend name doesn’t go past the ui bounds anymore if too long
    • Modified the buttons to match more the rest of the game aesthetic
  • Friends no longer vanish for ever when leaving the room
  • Friends free will - They can now change rooms and wander around
  • Friends stop moving when you talk with them
  • The map now display the room you currently are in (green)
  • You shouldn’t be able to edit the room you’re in (adding doors,expending,deleting,shrinking,etc..)
  • You can now delete rooms
    • Pop up to confirm
    • Items in a deleted room are lost for ever (may change later, send them to mail or something)
  • Can now shrink rooms, remove cells
    • This still need work especially when removing a cell that has furniture on it
  • Can now remove doors
    • Not completely done, works only when removing a room

Next week :

Since this week as been mostly improvements and polish this week I want to work more on content and features.

I’d like to add some furniture and work on the art style of the game.

But also I’d like to work on comets, I want to add comets to the game, those would appear instead of asteroids, and you won’t be able to land on them, but you’ll be able to harvest resources directly from them trough a mini-game so I might spend time on that. The space map also needs some love.
