#10 Mar 10 - Version T19 - Item Variations and Bug Fixes


Hello Space Travelers and welcome to another weekly devlog!

First of all before going any farther, I started to stream some of the development process nearly on the daily, at around 11:15 (GMT) you can watch it over on twitch here : www.twitch.tv/sukkoyf follow me to not miss it !

Now that that’s out of the way, this week was quite exciting, some cool changes were made regarding the building aspect (placing furniture)

You now have the option to show a small grid to guide your placement a bit. Placing items on walls has been greatly improved, and is now way easier to do, it took me quite a bit to get it to work properly, because the item kept snapping to walls that were invisible, and there was another problem with walls that had doors on them, but I think that’s now all fixed.

As I was adding items, something came quite apparent, if you recall, I recently added counters, for which we had straight and corner counters, as well as fence and short fence, and this week I was working on some pipes, and again I needed short, long and 90 degrees version.

So a change has been made on how items behave, items can now have variations, the items behave the exact same but when trying to place them a prompt will appear, to let you know you can press V to put a different version of that same item. This has for result that we will have less actual items, but still offer a lot of variety if that make sense.

I also worked on a lot of bug fixing, concerning the drawing mini-game, the map, some items and more.

This as for result that I’d be on the verge of calling certain systems/features “complete” which is a big milestone both the station map and editing your station layout and placing items is starting to be quite solid.

I spent the rest of my time on adding more furniture and remodel some old ones like the bed and chest.

I still didn’t get to work on the comet harvesting, that is due to a lack of inspiration , which can happen from time to time but I’ll find a way eventually to make it.

Changes :

  • Modified the recoloring/paint UI
    • Fixed a bug when exiting before mini game over
  • Counters now have surfaces so you can put items on them (oops forgot that when I made it)
  • Fixed a bug where you would fall off the map and get sent in space when loading a game
  • Changes to furniture placing
    • Better placement on walls, no longer snap on invisible walls.
    • Ability to show a grid while placing stuff (Press G)
    • Ability to change an item look while place (Press V if available)
  • Added Furniture Variations
    • Chest 1 & Chest 2
    • Storage Rack Filled & Empty
    • Dinner Counter Straight & Corner
    • Fence Long & Short
    • Bed With Frame & Frameless
    • Floor Pipe Straight & Short & Bend
  • Changes to plant pots
    • Now act as furniture
    • Can be picked up if no plant inside
    • Can be place anywhere
    • Can’t be crafted yet, will be added next week
    • Lit plants
  • Fixed multiple issues ont the station maps
    • Can now remove doors (button was there but the action didn’t work)
    • Fixed game crash when shrinking a room with only 1 cell left.
    • Can’t remove cells that have doors on them.

    • Box → Chest
    • Large Storage Rack →Storage Rack
    • 70s Counter Straight→ Diner Counter
    • 70s Counter Corner → Removed - Now a Diner Counter Variant
    • Short Fence -> Removed - Now a Fence Variant

    • Wall Mounted First Aid Kit
  • Remodeled Some Old Furniture
    • Bed
    • Chest

Upcoming :

The game is now getting in what I think is a very exciting place as I mentionned higher up, some systems are pretty much “done” (Nothing is ever entirely done, but you know, they’re good enough) which is great.

This week I mostly focused on fixing some issues we had that were bothering me and then my brain went on a tangent working on the map and building, which turned out well, but this week I want to put my brain to the task and get working on some more content, space exploration needs some more love and I’d really like to add a new furniture “set” maybe a general “bedroom” set or perhaps an infirmary set, we’ll see.

I also plan on remodelling the pipes as I’m not satisfied on how those turned out and I still have the workbench to remodel.
